The river has trended down slightly in flow over the past few days. Wading is very manageable and the water is clear. Fish have been hanging close to the banks. Be sure to set up a few drifts in that inside soft water before you step out too far and scatter fish. Midge hatches are sporadic and happening throughout most of the morning hours. We have started to see fish eat more baetis nymphs and have started to include several patterns in our rotation. Be patient and you will be rewarded. Last couple of a.m. trips have been consistent but not on fire. However, if you’re fortunate to be on the river around 1 p.m. you may get into the season’s first wave of blue wing hatches.
