Park City Fly Fishing Report

March 11, 2021 by Park City Fly Fishing Guides Leave a Comment

Location | Middle Section of the Provo River

Flows | 144.38 cfs release at Jordanelle Dam

Fishing | Good

Hatches | Midges

Time of Day | 9-3pm

Flies | #20-#26 gray, black, red and brown

Tippet | 6x

Techniques | Nymphing and late morning and early afternoon dry fly fishing

As you can see, not too much has changed since last report. We are seeing some more active fish and more consistent hatches of non-microscopic midges (kind of). This was the first week we noticed that it wasn’t hurting us by using slightly heavier tippet. 5.5x – 6x seemed just as effective as the 7x rigs we’ve been suffering through for the past six weeks. All midge patterns seem to still be in play, red and black have been particularly effective. Spring in Park City is starting to fully materialize. Crowds on the river have been madness and it might be a good idea to try fishing some new spots. There is a lot of river and it ultimately disservices your progress as an angler to fish the same spots every time you’re out. Twenty eight cars at the green gate below Jordanelle is too much! Please, be mindful and respectful of your fellow anglers, the fish (debarb your hooks) and the resource.
